Ed and Hank

Ed 'n Hank go ta town...
(literally...)

Chapter 18, part 1 is here:
http://myeyesaintblue.livejournal.com/17541.html

Everything else is here:

Ed 'n Hank go ta town...
(literally...)

Didn' know Mabel's competition was leavin' town...
Wonder if'n Mabel can afford ta upgrade ta this corner?
It really is the best corner in town.

Ed's hungry.
Time fer lunch first.

Yep. Sell yer cattle
Then sit down 'n eat 'em.
"Mooo"

And...
You can get yer haircut too.

They recommend eatin' first though...
So's ya don' get all them little hairs in yer food.

Not too crowded.  Tha's unusual. No cows 'round neither.

Not eatin' any cows ta day though.
Ed's havin' pancakes fer lunch.
"Mmmm... pancakes..."
Don' worry.
Hank didn' let Ed eat
all tha' butter.

(Hmmm... Hope Ed and Hank don' got no food poisonin'.
They both look a little odd-like.)

They like John Wayne here.

A whole lot.

And Clint Eastwood too.

Hey look...
There's Clint now.
"Howdy Clint!"
Ed's pretendin' he' ain't thrilled.
(But, he is.)

BTW...
This ain't Ed 'n Hank.
But I think them two cowboys
migh' like each other.

Time ta go shoppin'...

Ugh...

Ed and Hank don' like shoppin'

'Lessen it's fer boots...

Ed and Hank's fav'rite place ta buy boots.

Boots!

Yep, them are two sep'rate areas.
'N these are jus' the men's.
Cowboys love their
boots.

Ed 'n Hank don' get new boots too often.

So they take their time pickin' 'em out when they do.
Ed prefers the lower ones.
Hank likes his higher.
And flashier.

Cowgirls love their boots too.

And fringe...

(Bill migh' not wear it, but he likes fringe too... A lot.)

Time ta do some more shoppin'...

Ed wants Hank ta look fer somethin' fer Iris
while Ed does the grocery shoppin'.

Hank's not 'xactly sure what he's s'posed ta get Iris
from a ranch store.

A cowboy hat?
Nah... Don' know her hat size...

Doubt Iris has any use fer a cast iron dutch oven.
Or a shovel for muckin' out her garage...
Or a lasso?
 Well, ya never know...

Maybe some a them bowls?  Or a horse doormat fer her bungalow?
Or a horse blanket?

A book?
Nah... Iris don' got a horse.

Which means all a this is out too...
No... No... No...

Maybe a nice bandana?  Or a pair a jeans?
Nah... Not a very good selection.
They prob'bly don' got her size in stock...

Maybe a gun?

A girl can always use a gun...
Bet them poor fellas on the wall would beg ta differ though.
(Maybe they all died a natural causes...)

Damn...
Hank don' know what the hell ta get Iris.

He's gonna go look fer a shirt fer Ed
instead.

Don' got none a them real fancy shirts here.
Darn.

Let's see the choices are stripes... or plaids...

Or plaids or stripes...

Or...

cattle or cattle or guitars 'n lassos...

Or...

horses or deer or horses...

or elk or bears or elk...

Or...

"Oh dear..."

Stripes, plaids,
cattle, guitars, lassos,
horses, deer, bears, elk...
Lookin' at all them shirts is givin' Hank a big ol' headache.

But it migh' give ya some idea a how crazy-lookin' tha' quilt's qonna be.
(Though I hear tell Betty can work wonders with clashin' fabrics.)

Maybe just a silly t-shirt this year?

Darn! This one's too small for Ed and this one's way too big.
(Hank woulda crossed out the "2,000 lbs."
'n wrote in his own weight.)

Oh,
wait...
There it is...
Not at all like the shirts Hank typically buys Ed...
But it's the perfect shirt fer Ed...

Huh...?

No...
Not this one...
This one looks kinda lost...
It musta took a wrong turn somewheres.

This one...
 Jus' like tha' first postcard...

And since Ed will definitely wear this one.
Hank's gonna buy a couple fer him.
Shoot...
They only got one in his size.
Oh well,
least they had that one...

Well, tha' was pretty easy.
Now... Hank's gonna buy some toys fer them tots.
Hank likes buyin' toys fer tots.
He can buy all the stuff he woulda liked when he were young.
'N then some.

Hell, oops, I mean heck, he'd still like some a them horses even now.

Tha' one can says "Bonnie's Baked Beans"...
"Ugh... Beans..."

Hey...
They got the "Visible Cow"!
Heard Santa Claus was runnin' short a those.
BTW, is it jus' me, or does tha' pony have kinda a Elvis hairdo?

Wait a minute...
Them big blue eyes and tha' thick, black hair...
Nah... It couldn' be...

Well...
Tha's 'bout all the shoppin'
Hank can take
in one
day.

Good timin'
Ed's here ta pick him up.
Better hide tha'
shirt.

Okay,
Still got time ta run a few more errands
'fore tha' parade starts.

You do know 'bout the Holiday Parade?
Dontcha?

Gotta pick up them pies for Bill and Ed...

"Mmmm... Pie..."

'N make a couple more very important stops

"Mmmm... Beer...."    "Mmmm... Soft-serve dairy product... "

Hmmm... Ed and Hank got tha' look again.
Oh wait... I know tha' look.
Nevermind...

And then...

Yay!
It's time fer
the Children's Holiday Parade a Lights!
Hope we can find a spot ta stand...

Nothin' comin' yet.

Hank'll never get used ta them crowds...

Gotta admit though...

It were a lot better than tha' sheep parade.
Not one semi-truck...

Just a bus...

And,

 of course,

a tank...

Tha's righ'...
It's the traditional Holiday Tank....

Ain't tha' nice?
They put a light-up snowman on it.
Maybe next year baby Jesus can ride up top too.
After all, nothin' says "Peace on Earth"
'n "Goodwill ta All"
like an armored artillery vehicle...

Maybe
they do mean ta spread
a whole heap a peace 'n joy 'n goodwill towards all...
'N they're jus' gonna use a little force
if'n they have ta.

Or maybe...
it's a ad fer a upcomin' movie.
Comin' ta a theatre near you...
"Frank the Holiday Tank
Saves Christmas"

Or maybe...

Hey, look!

Finally!
There's Santa Claus!

Yay!

On a fire truck?

Yep.
If'n nothin' else...
No one can accuse our little town
of not bein' prepared.

"Ho, Ho, Ho!"

Happy Holidays
y'all!

Nothin' more ta see here.
Y'all jus' move 'long real
peaceable-like
now...

Hey! Tanks! (Sorry... that was bad.) Don't blame Hank for this... We take turns. He writes the actual chapters, I do this stuff. Glad it made you laugh! I admit, I had to restrain myself a bit with the tank stuff... (For Ed and Hank's sake.)
Merry Christmas back atcha xxx

I just love your "travelogues"! They are just incredible. (Btw, I would have voted for getting the cast iron dutch oven as a gift for Iris. I for one can't seem to cook on/with anything *but* cast iron.)

Thanks! Yeah, cast iron is great. Maybe we'll go back and look for something a little smaller in cast iron for Iris. Glad you like the travelogues! I tend to get a little carried away with them...

Visible Cow

I want a "visible Cow"! That blue, yellow & brown shirt with the horses was just wrong! your travelogue cracked me up. (wonder what the store owner thought about you taking all these pictures....)

Re: Visible Cow

Hey... That yellow and brown shirt with horses was my favorite! ;D No, you're right, it was just wrong! I went back to check on the "visible cow" for you, but they were sold out. (sorry...) As to taking all the pictures, I'm sure I'm now on some kind of "watch list". Well, I most likely was before, but I bet my name's been bumped to the top of the list now. The restaurant was the hardest, 'cause it was really kind of crowded. I had to ask people if they minded if I took pictures of the John Wayne pictures over their heads. :D The people in the boot store clearly thought we were lunatics. The only time I was approached in the big store was when I was taking pictures of the dead animals. Some guy thought I was taking the pictures 'cause I liked hunting so much. (???) He then told me a very long and very confusing story about his daughter and fishing(?!?)...

Re: Visible Cow

It's all true. (Including the Visible Cow being sold out, although that wasn't specifically why I went back.) But I must confess, these pictures weren't nearly as hard to take as the Sheep Festival pictures. Some of those took more chutzpah than I thought I had in me... Especially the picture of the fella with the "whip me, tie me..." t-shirt. I ended up chasing this poor guy down (through the mud) and making him pose for me -- "Hold your lasso out. Now hold it up a little higher..."

Thanks for makin' my day again. Got a smile that won't quit now.

Hey Joan, Glad it made you laugh! "Where'd you say that store was?" Why, that store's in town, of course... Downtown to be more specific. Can't miss it. ;D If you're aiming to get yerself some boots you'd better come here! Hint: Our town was named after a tree that does not grow here and never did. (I swear...)

Well I want to go shopping with Ed and Hank. It is so ironic you showed us this, my partner and I were searching for a good boots store and found a nice one half way between here and Buffalo and bought ourselves some hats, shirts, boots and well yes even a Lasso for ourselves and heck I don't own a horse anymore so you put two and two together. LOL I love the Christmas display really, really nice. On the Marshall Fields thing again don't forget to try the Iced tea it is the best. Black currant tea very very good for iced tea. Joe

Hey Joe, Hank and I will definitely try to drag Ed down to Marshall Fields for the black currant iced tea - sounds great! (Well, I can only speak for me and Hank, not Ed...) Wish I could see your hats/shirts/boots. And of, course, love that you bought a lasso. I simply can't imagine what use you'd have for it if you don't own a horse... (LOL)

Oh, I completely agree with Hank -- that is THE shirt for Ed!

Too bad Ed isn't really into holiday gift giving, because I have the perfect suggestion (Better cover Hank's eyes):

**********
Get'em one of those singing fish on a plaque that were so popular a few years back.... First time I ever saw one, I thought it was just one of those fishing trophy things. I nearly jumped out of my skin when it MOVED and started singing, "Take me to the Ri-ver...."
******

Okay, Hank can look again.

I like boots, too. Mid-calf height, suede, not really practical for ranching, but so comfortable. If Iris does a lot of old-fashioned cooking, one of those cast-iron pans would be nice. Actually, Iris would probably like anything her two cowboys get her!

Y'know, Santa riding the firetruck isn't that uncommon; iff'n he was ridin' the TANK-- Then I'd be worried!

Big hugs and smoochies!

Hi Mary,
Maybe I'll get the singing fish for Ed and Hank! They must sell singing fish somewhere 'round these parts. I'm like Bill, I like fringe. A lot. Though I don't wear it. Maybe I should start... I love cast iron too. Maybe Ed and Hank will buy Iris something along those lines, but you're right, she does like anything Ed and Hank give her. I was wondering about the fire truck and Santa. It's always been the tradition here, but I wasn't sure if it was in other towns too. Good to know it is. I'll let you know if Santa shows up on the tank next year...

Oh boy! I love these! Ed and Hank sure do get around. I think they should get Iris a shirt from Rockmount. That's a good gift. :) And it's a shirt! They could carry on tradition.

I hope Ed and Hank don't get stopped by the po-po!

Hey, love the shirt from Rockmount idea! And that it's in keeping with the shirt traditon. I think Iris would really like one of those vintage ones. And since we have to go through Denver on our way to Chicago it should be no problem stopping... I already looked up where they are. Should be real easy to find. Glad you liked this and the previous chapter too. Hoping to post part 3 of this chapter before we leave.

Your photographs were so interesting, especially all those boots lined up, I have never seen anything like it.

I think this is the first virtual shopping trip I have on been on and shopping with Hank is a lot of fun.

Thanks Hank
