Greetin's from... somewhere around the sea...

"Cain't believe we're really at the ocean, Ed."

"Ain't all ta gether sure we are."

"Bet it's righ' out there...

"Wouldn' make any bets if'n I were you..."

"Yeah? I bet tha' sign says
'Take two steps forward 'n you'll get wet pretty damn quick'."

"'M already wet.
Damn weird weather.
Ain't so much rainin' as jus' hangin' in the air..."

"Guess tha's why there's a plant growin' on tha' there sign."

"'N I cain't decide fer the life a me if'n 'm too warm or too cold...
'm wearin' ma self out jus' takin' ma jacket off 'n then puttin' it back on again
'n then takin' it off again 'n then puttin' it back on again 'n then..."

"I get the idea good 'nough, Ed.
'S the humidity."

"Gee... Ya think?"

"Don' hardly have none a tha' back home.
'N you gen'rally start bitchin' 'n moainin' when it hits 30%.
But ya gotta admit... it makes it feel righ' nice ta breathe in."

"Don' gotta admit nothin'.
'N tha' smell..."

"Smell's good."

"Well... sure smells anyways.
Back home it don' gen'rally smell like much neither.
Even dead stuff don' stink fer long.
Here it's kinda like yer smellin' livin' stuff 'n rottin' stuff all mixed up ta gether."

"Wha' ya snortin' at?"

"Nothin' much...
Jus' standin' here with ya on the edge a the ocean...
In the fog... Waves crashin'...
Thinkin' 'bout when Iris said ya were the romantic-type."

"I ain't the romantic-type."

"Guess the ocean jus' don' bring it out 'n ya."

"Ain't seen the ocean yet."

"Well... seein' as we cain't see the ocean...
why don' we go lookin' fer some a them tidepools?"

"Think we need ta get one a them tide tables
'fore we do tha'."

We can get it later.
Let's jus' go take a look...
Tha' rocky spot over there looks promisin'...
Them folks from Eugene said ta look in rocky spots."

"Don' think it's a real good idea, Hank...
Don' 'xactly know wha' we're doin'.
Hell... don' even know wha' were lookin' fer..."

"Figure we'll know it when we see it.
Least-wise some a it."

"Look out, Hank!"

"Shit... Maybe yer righ', Ed...
Let's go find one a them there tide tables.
'n a ranger maybe..."

"'N a towel...
I need a towel."

"There... Tha's better... ain't it?"

"Sure is."

"Cleared up real nice. 'S amazin'."

"Can say tha' again."

"But I won' 'cause I know it'll jus' irritate ya.
Guess I shoulda saved tha' song 'bout seein' ferever on a clear day fer this one."
I didn' have no idea..."

"Ain't never seen nothin' like it."

"Tha's fer damn sure."

"'N I cain't hardly believe we got this here overlook all ta ourselves..."

"Me neither."

"...Uh... I uh... I wanna thank ya, Hank...
Wouldn' never a seen none a this
withou' ya makin' me..."

"Don' gotta thank me, Ed.
'M jus' real glad we're seein' it ta gether."

"Me too. Jeez... Think I gotta sit down..."

"The height botherin' ya, Ed?
Ya wanna go?"

"Nah. Knees are a l'il weak...
But it ain't the height tha's makin' 'em tha' way...
It's jus'... I dunno... it's jus' tha'...
I owe ya a whole lot, Hank."

"Ya don' owe me nothin' tha' I don' owe you.
'N I think tha' makes us even."

"Ya mind if'n we jus' sit here fer a l'il while...
'n look out at tha' big blue ocean?"

"Sounds real good ta me."

"C'mere, Hank."

"Guess the ocean does bring it out 'n ya after all."

"Don' got no idea wha' yer talkin' 'bout."

Thank God it's the ocean

I was beginning to wonder whether Ed was gonna never have gone further than around the campsite, lookin for the pit toilet.:-) Not that there wasn't plenty to see around that last one...

Hank always was good at prying Ed out of his shell, and I'm not surprised Ed is sometimes overcome by how very lucky he was to find the one who knew that it is just a shell, and that the man inside is well worth finding.

Hank's right, though: "Ya don' owe me nothin' tha' I don' owe you.
'N I think tha' makes us even."
He needs Ed's love just as much as Ed needs his, and Ed's pretty amazin at showin him just how much he is needed, with and without words.

My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite

Re: Thank God it's the ocean

Maybe they'll find a shell or two to keep as souvenirs.
Loved that you made that connection, Jenny.

'Blue, she's real smart, isn't she! :D

Yes, Jenny's real smart! Both of you are real smart! :D

After they get home, Ed and Hank will have to read more.

Re: Thank God it's the ocean

Love the Romeo and Juliet quote. Thanks. And your comment about "how very lucky he [Ed] was to find the one who knew that it is just a shell, and that the man inside is well worth finding." And about how Hank needs Ed's love just as much as Ed need's Hank.

Hank did have to kind of ease Ed out of state. It took a while, (decades, even) but Ed still seems to be enjoying himself.
