A little sheep story

A sheepish little story

Ed and Hank took me camping this past weekend.
The place we were originally headed was on fire.
With an inversion holding the smoke down

It was a "prescribed burn", meaning it was planned.
So no sheep were in danger
But smoke is smoke...
Can't breathe.
Can't see.

So we went here instead...

Day started out very nice...

But we only had that classic
deep blue western sky
for a little while...

Before the day changed to this...
(Still real nice though.)

And finally this...

So we headed up towards the mountains instead.

But first Ed & Hank asked me to wait in the truck
While they went to check out that big ol' rock.
They disappeared 'round the other side.
Can't imagine what they were doin'.
Came back smilin' though.
Kinda sheepishly...

And speaking of sheep...

Too late in the year for sheep to still be on the mountain.
So couldn't take pictures of sheep.  Damn!
Hank took a picture of this sign
As the next best thing.

Come to think of it...
Hadn't seen any sheep all day...
Not for any lack of looking for them though...

No sheep here... :(

Ed & Hank even looked inside that old barn
For a while. In fact, for quite a long while.
I'm sure they would have found sheep
If any sheep had been in there.

And there weren't any sheep here...  :(

I know 'cause Ed & Hank checked everywhere
They went 'round them rocks and
looked and looked and looked.
They were gone so long
I took a nap.

No sheep here either... :(

Ed & Hank even looked behind those bushes.
They ain't very good at looking for sheep.
Takes them a long, long, long time.
And they've never ever found any.
But they sure do like looking
A whole helluva lot.

So, where are all the sheep?

Maybe they're all
on their way to town
for the big "Sheep Festival"!

Though we didn't see
any hitchhiking

'Course we wouldna
picked them up
if we had.

'Cause them sheep
can be mighty
y' know.

So, our town is having a big old "Sheep Festival"
It's being held later this month
I'll take pictures.

The end.

Any resemblance to any other story containing sheep, whether incinerated or pink (Hi Elle!), is purely coincidental. No sheep were harmed in the writing of this. ;) All of these pictures were taken on Saturday (except for the sheep picture, of course) and there really was a fire where we were originally planning to go.

And there is a "Sheep Festival" in our town coming up soon! I cannot wait to go!

Yep. Will tell where after the next set of pictures... Hint: I'm very blue living in a very red state. (LOL) Doesn't narrow it down much for the West does it?

LOL! Loved it! That Ed and Hank sure looked hard (and I mean hard) for those damn sheep. Plus that is the single most disturbing sheep pic I've ever seen - psycho sheep - scary.

Thanks Alice!
"That Ed and Hank sure looked hard (and I mean hard) for those damn sheep." Yep. They plumb wore themselves out. ;D

And that is a pretty disturbing sheep picture, isn't it? Got it out of the newspaper when they were writin' 'bout the upcomin' "Sheep Festival."

Here's something else funny. Our vehicle broke down today! Sure glad it didn't do it Saturday...

Here's my only sheep icon just for you!

And thank you indeed for these gorgeous photos. Real skies are much more beautiful than postcard ones! Where was it?

Oh, and glad to know that Ed and Hanks had a good time looking for sheep!

Love the sheep icon! Thanks! Glad you liked the photos. Do love the sky out here... I promise to tell where I live after I post the next set of photos. Don't want to give away right now where such a thing would take place. (Would have posted those first, but we were having trouble getting them off the laptop. The ones from last weekend were just in the camera.)

Thanks Claudia!
Forgot to tell you I LOVE your Icon.
Ed and Hank had a great time. And so did I. Think we were lucky though -- Our vehicle broke down today! Guess we could still be out there... (Not really though. That road in the second picture is actually very well-traveled, especially in fall 'cause it's not as hot. So at the most we would have had to a walk a few miles back to it to find help. And I would have sent Ed and Hank while I took another nap. ;D)

Boy, it sure does look like Hank and Ed are diligent in their search for sheep. Very commendable.

Glad it made you *snork*! Yeah, the pretty much wore themselves out. ;D I didn't have the heart to tell them you never see sheep in any of those places anyway... (Or maybe they thought I didn't know that!)

God I needed you and your great sense of humor after the last few tear jerker stories I read tonight and I thank you so much for saving me from total breakdown. Just great and your imagination and putting these pictures and words together well are classic. Joe

Hi Joe,
Glad it came at the right time. I have to stay away from the tear jerkers lately. Just can't take it. Real life is nipping at my heels today. Will try to send the rest of the postcards tomorrow. Good that the rest made it! Anything doesn't print or look right, let me know.

Have not had a good day so decided to catch up on some BBM reading. This is great - just what I needed. Too funny and I love the demented sheep picture!
